With the nine-day Navratri Festival at the door,
we tell you how the northern belt of the country believes in the celebration of
the holiday with "Jagrans" and "Mata Ki Chowki".
As soon as the month of Navratri begins (this
year, it will be from October 1 to October 10), the booking counters of various
artists and singers performing during the special poojas witness an overflow of
worshipers. These special poojas, which are offered during Maa Durga's nine-day
festival, are called "Mata Ki Chowki" or "Jagran". However,
they can also be observed in addition to "Navratras" Mata Ka
Jagran.
The practice is more prevalent in the nation's
capital, where various pandals, large and small, can be seen with colorful
lighting and high-volume music equipment. In addition to New Delhi, there are
other northern states where cultivation is vigorously practiced, particularly
in the Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir (where Vaishno Devi sanctuary is located) and
in parts of the country. Uttar Pradesh.”Jagran Ki Party

Mata Ki Chowki |
When we describe what is considered Jagran and
what Mata Ki Chowki calls, there is a very thin line between the two. Many people
observe fast (abstinence from all food, solid or liquid) every nine days, while
some remain on the first and last days of the nine-day festival.
Jagrans are organized by people who have
expressed their desire or special wish in front of the Goddess. Once this is
done, they organize a "Jagran Ki Party" to pay for their obedience before Maa Durga, thanking her
for fulfilling their wishes. The family (or the head of the family), who
organizes the Jagran, abs
tains from all food and observes the fast until
the end of the Jagran. The entire night is usually spent singing bhajans of the
goddess, praying and thanking her with clasped hands.
In "Mata Ki Chowki", the program lasts
about three hours. It is organized on special events. In addition to Navratri,
Mata Ki Chowki can be observed at any wedding, birthday, anniversary or even
during the Ganpati celebrations.
One of the most interesting things discovered at
Mata Ka Jagran and Chowkis is that they are rich in energy and food. There is
enough variety of "satvik bhojan" for devotees, including fruit chat,
potato flavors and even chai stalls and appetizing pani poori. In addition to
food, singers and performers, who usually perform these functions, are so
experienced in their performance art that they entertain you while reminding
you of God.
There is enough devotional music, often
associated with Bollywood rhythms, allowing people to dance and enjoy the night
of Jagran and Mata Ki Chowki. In addition, there are sometimes these artists,
dressed in different gods, dancing on bhajans and keeping everyone in bhakti
mode.
